Community Fun & Fundraising Success at North Bergen Classic Car & Bike Show

Photo by Gene Hirschel On Sunday, June 26th, Bergenline Avenue was filled with a gorgeous array of classic cars, jeeps, motorcyles, and many more unique vehicles as LABS619 and the North Bergen Police Department (NBPD) came together to create the first show of its kind in North Bergen. According to P.O. Hector Rosa, who was instrumental in putting the show together on behalf of the NBPD, a total of over $5,000 was collected through the event for the 2016 New Jersey Special Olympics Fundraiser. This community event sponsored by Hudson County Freeholder Anthony Vainieri and the North Bergen Police Department also included vendors, giveaways, a 50/50 raffle, and music. Trophies were awarded to more than 20 of the most outstanding vehicles courtesy of The Hoboken Cruisers. Overall it was a beautiful, family-friendly day in North Bergen. “We are always working to bring new events and programs to North Bergen and this Classic Car Show is another great example,” said Mayor Nicholas Sacco of North Bergen. “This was a fun event for the entire family and the fact that it will benefit the Special Olympics makes it a home run for our community.” Hudson County Freeholder Anthony Vainieri said that since he became Freeholder his focus has been on bringing more community events to North Bergen and all of Hudson County to bring people together and make our area more vibrant and exciting. “We are proud to be introducing another great event to the township that will hopefully become an annual tradition just like other new events like the Braddock Park Arts Festival, Columbus Day Carnival and more,” he said. NY Auto Show Recap

This week the LABS619 team attended the annual New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) at the Javits Center in New York City to peruse the upcoming trends in the industry for 2016. As one of the world’s premiere automotive showcases, NYIAS boasts over four floors of displays from manufacturers throughout the world featuring their newest offerings and concept vehicles. But while the show attracts thousands of novice car enthusiasts annually, Felix Velez (CEO and Founder of LABS619) had a very specific reason for attending this year – getting in touch with the latest model muscle cars for the upcoming MMC Competition being presented by LABS619 this summer. Velez said it was a good show with a nice display of cars as usual– particularly the Dodge/Chrysler section, which featured a color-coordinated array of muscle. Favorites included the Dodge Charger Hellcat featuring a 6.2L V8 engine and the 2016 Chevy Camaro, which also has a 6.2 option along with their 2.0 4-cylinder and 3.6 V6 offerings. Muscle VS Eco The throwback look and power of muscle cars is an industry trend that was seen at the SEMA Show back in November as well. But there is, of course, still a booming eco-friendly and hybrid explosion going on which was also visible at many of the manufacturers displays at NYIAS. Velez likened the muscle/hybrid juxtaposition to an instance of history repeating itself when America first flexed its muscle with (now) classic cars like the Camaro and Mustang. “We’re seeing now what happened back in the 70’s,” Velez said. “When the Japanese introduced their models – smaller, more efficient, less pollution. It’s a good... read more
